Deputy Principal’s Report

Warmest greetings to all our families.

Last week, we had the joy of celebrating Harmony Day, a time to embrace the beautiful diversity within our College community and reflect on the truth that we are all God’s children, created in His image.

We thank Mrs Jade Baravilala for organising the Island Breeze Fijian Community, whose performances of song and dance contributed to a wonderful celebration. Their showcase not only highlighted the beauty of their culture but also shared in God’s love for us all. Our College assembly was a display of unity, as students and staff proudly shared of their cultural heritage. They took the opportunity to teach their peers greetings in their native languages, reminding us of the beauty and strength found in diversity.

Harmony Day reminded us that in God’s kingdom, there is no division – no race, language, or culture is greater than another.

Revelation 7:9 paints a beautiful picture of heaven, where “a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language” stands together before the throne of God. This is the vision we strive for – a community where love, respect, and unity prevail.

Let us continue to reject racism in all its forms and embrace the truth that we are one in Christ, created in His perfect love. May our College always be a place where every student is valued, every culture is celebrated, and every heart is drawn closer to God.

Easter Chapel + Grandparents and Special Friends Day

A friendly reminder that this Friday 4 April (the last day of Term 1), we will be celebrating Grandparents and Special Friends Day. This special occasion is an opportunity to honour the important role that grandparents and special friends play in the lives of our students.

Our Easter Chapel Service will also take place during this event, where we will come together to sing hymns and hear an Easter message from our Chaplains. This service will help us strengthen our Christian focus and deepen our understanding of Easter.

  • 9:40am – 10:20am – Classroom Visits (Prep – Year 12) Junior School: Classrooms, Senior School: Period 2 and Period 3 Classrooms

NAPLAN

Our students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 have successfully completed their NAPLAN Assessments. While these assessments provide valuable insights, it is important to remember that NAPLAN is just one measure of a student’s abilities. It does not capture all the wonderful qualities that make each student unique. Creativity, kindness, resilience, and teamwork are just a few of the many attributes that contribute to a student’s overall growth and success.

A special thank you to Mrs Christiansen, Miss Bishell, and Mrs France for their excellent coordination of NAPLAN and for arranging nutritious fruit and brain food to support our students each day.

With assessments now behind them, I am sure our students are looking forward to the upcoming holiday break for some well-earned rest and relaxation.

Barracudas: Broncos Challenge Game:

The recent wet weather has made it challenging for our teams, with stadium closures affecting our games. Unfortunately our much-anticipated Indigenous Round scheduled for Wednesday 2 April has also been postponed due to the weather. Watch out on socials for an update as to when this will be played.

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.”

As we all enjoy the Easter break with our loved ones, may we reflect on the true meaning of Easter. May we always remember Jesus’ sacrifice and love for us and the forgiveness and healing it brings. Let us all take the time to thank God for the depth of His love and grace in sending his Son to pay the ultimate sacrifice on the cross for our sins. May we never take for granted the healing and peace that comes from His suffering. Wishing you all a safe and blessed Easter break.

Term 2 resumes for students on Tuesday 22 April 2025.

May God bless you and your families.

Senior Fashion

The Senior Fashion class is coming to the end of a semester of work titled Unit D: Collections. In this unit, students explored the fashion industry in the context of collections. They designed four or five garments and presented a fashion collection for a fashion category of their choosing on a presentation board that depicted the theme and mood of their collection. Students then produced garments that were part of their own brand’s fashion collection.

Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education empowers students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead active, balanced lives—building strong bodies, sharp minds, and lifelong wellbeing.

This term, our Health and Physical Education program has provided students with a rich variety of learning experiences that have not only developed their physical capabilities but also strengthened their social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Through problem-solving challenges, team-based activities, and opportunities to lead and collaborate, students have continued to build valuable lifelong skills that extend well beyond the playing field.

Year 7 students have been actively engaged in learning the rules and strategies of Newcomb Ball, a fast-paced and inclusive game that has helped strengthen their teamwork, spatial awareness, and communication. These sessions have provided a foundation for cooperation and mutual respect, all while having fun.

Year 8 students have had the unique opportunity to take their learning outside the classroom and onto the beach, where the natural environment has served as a stunning and dynamic setting for physical activity. These beach-based lessons have encouraged students to adapt to changing conditions while building resilience, teamwork, and game sense. Many students have expressed how much they’ve enjoyed the challenge of learning in an outdoor space, an experience that has enriched both their skill development and engagement.

In Year 9, students have taken part in a series of team-building challenges, including collaborative tasks like tent-building and various leadership-based games. These activities have allowed students to practise decision-making, cooperation, and clear communication, key life skills that support both academic and personal growth.

Year 10 students have immersed themselves in the fast-paced game of Oztag, where they’ve focused on refining individual techniques, understanding gameplay strategy, and working as a cohesive team. The level of commitment and sportsmanship displayed has been outstanding.

Senior Sport and Recreation students have taken on leadership roles by planning, organising, and delivering a sporting event for a younger secondary class. This hands-on task has challenged them to manage logistics, engage an audience, and reflect critically on their performance, skills that develop confidence, resilience, and practical leadership for the real world.

As the term draws to a close, we celebrate the achievements and growth of our students across all year levels. Watching their confidence flourish and their willingness to embrace challenges has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a reminder of why Health and Physical Education plays such a vital role in shaping not only active learners but capable, confident young people.

News from 6T

6T have been working hard this Term and here is a glimpse of what we have been doing!

We started our term by being creative and created some symmetry pictures of vases. This showed our creative side and the colour in these pictures are amazing!

English

Writing biographies about famous people from the past and present. We enjoyed researching and learning more about people who have made a difference in the world and for some they are still changing people’s lives. We learnt new facts about people and discovered not everyone had a great start in life, but through persistence and perseverance that achieved amazing things in their life.

Humanities and Social Sciences

The Australian Government was our topic this term. We identified the three levels of Government and learnt what each level was responsible for. Creating a triarama of the levels of Government helped us to know which level covers the different areas. Students also looked at process of getting a new law passed and they had to create a new law that would benefit the whole community.

News from 6Q

6Q have thoroughly enjoyed embracing their leadership roles within the college this year. One of the highlights of their week is spending time with their Year 1 buddies, forming meaningful connections through a range of activities. From reading together and learning about each other to playing in the playground, creating Harmony Day artwork, and making Easter crafts while discussing the true meaning of Easter, these moments have been both fun and valuable. These buddy relationships help strengthen our college community, giving the Year 1 students a caring older mentor to look up to and providing the Year 6 students with an opportunity to develop responsibility, empathy, and leadership skills that will serve them well in the future.

Harmony Day Project

6Q worked together on a collaborative colouring project for Harmony Day to celebrate the importance of unity in our community.
