English has been an exciting and engaging subject for our Year 8 and 9 students this term, with both year levels exploring literature, language and storytelling in different ways.
Our Year 8 students have been exploring the world of Australian bush poetry, discovering how poets use language, imagery, rhythm and storytelling to capture the Australian landscape, culture and way of life. Students have enjoyed reading a range of bush poems and examining how Australian poets share stories and communicate ideas through creative and powerful language. They have also had the opportunity to develop their own poetry, experimenting with different techniques and styles. To add to the experience, students have enjoyed learning in a variety of spaces, including working outdoors in the sunshine and collaborating in small groups.
Our Year 9 students have taken their first exciting steps into the world of William Shakespeare as they study Romeo and Juliet. Students have been exploring the characters, themes and conflicts within this famous tragedy while considering why Shakespeare’s work continues to be relevant more than 400 years after it was written. They have been challenged to look beyond the language of the play and consider the universal themes of love, conflict, family and choices that continue to resonate with audiences today.
It has been wonderful to see our students engaging enthusiastically with both Australian and classic literature this term.
