Our Year 7 Science students have been exploring the fascinating topic of food webs and ecosystems this term, developing their understanding of how living organisms interact and depend on one another within the environment. Students have investigated producers, consumers, decomposers, and the delicate balance that exists within natural habitats.
To further enrich their learning, we are excited to welcome an Environmental Officer from the Fraser Coast Regional Council next week. The presentation will provide students with valuable insight into local environmental management, sustainability practices, and the importance of protecting ecosystems within our region.
Meanwhile, our Year 8 and Year 9 Science students have been busy developing their practical laboratory skills through a range of exciting Chemistry investigations. Students are exploring states of matter, physical and chemical changes, and how substances behave under different conditions. Through hands-on experiments conducted in the laboratory, students are learning to safely use scientific equipment, make observations, record data, and analyse experimental results.
Year 10 students have been focusing on Physics this term and are currently completing their examination this week. Students have been investigating concepts relating to forces, motion, and energy while further developing their scientific problem-solving and analytical skills.
Recently, a group of Year 10 students proudly represented the school at the regional Science and Engineering Challenge held at the local PCYC, where they achieved an impressive fourth-place finish overall. Congratulations to Myles Lloyd-Hartwig and Asher Roots, who both achieved first place in each of their respective challenges. Their outstanding efforts, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities were a fantastic reflection of the talent and dedication possessed by our Science students.
These practical and competitive learning experiences continue to inspire students to apply their scientific knowledge in real-world contexts while building confidence, resilience, and collaboration skills.
