The English classrooms have been buzzing with energy and creativity this term, as students across all year levels continue to develop their confidence, critical thinking, and command of language.
In Years 7 and 8, the focus has been on the art of persuasion. Students have been exploring how language can be used to influence, inspire, and convince an audience. Through challenging activities and lively discussions, they are learning how to structure effective speeches, select strong evidence, and craft clear, compelling arguments. From analysing powerful examples to drafting and delivering their own persuasive pieces, students are building essential skills in communication and confidence. It has been wonderful to see them finding their voices and learning that their ideas matter.
For students in Years 9–12, the term has largely centred on poetry and the power of deeper layers of meaning. Classes have been unpacking a range of poetic texts, exploring how writers use language devices and stylistic features to convey complex ideas and emotions. Students are being challenged to read beyond the surface and engage thoughtfully with themes, perspectives, and author’s intent. This analytical understanding has then been extended into creative writing, with students using their growing understanding of poetry to inform the writing of sophisticated short stories.
Across all year levels, a strong emphasis has been placed on growth, curiosity, and purposeful learning. Students are being encouraged to take risks, refine their skills, and reflect on how their writing and thinking is developing over time.
It has been a strong and exciting start in English, marked by strong engagement and steady progress. We are proud of the way students are embracing challenges and extending themselves as readers, writers, and thinkers, and we look forward to seeing these skills continue to grow as the term unfolds.
