OUR CREST

Images and artists’ work surrounds us, wherever we look. We can appreciate the artistic skill, beauty or be moved by the emotions they draw from us. Like so much imagery, our College crest has much imagery and symbolism that may be missed at a first glance. If an image is to represent an organisation, then the elements of the crest must be carefully constructed and thoughtfully designed.

For many people, our crest is merely a lovely boat, perhaps even considered appropriate because of our location, but it tells a much deeper story, one with greater meaning and intent than that which is immediately visible. This should give us confidence in our purpose and the call that we answer each and every day.

The College crest has a great many elements that reflect on our College, our foundational beliefs and Mission, and our connection to both Hervey Bay and indeed our nation. These elements when joined, present a beautiful image, but the reality is that the beauty is found within the meaning of these elements.

• The boat references our journey in life and reminds us that Christ called his Disciples to follow Him and to be fishers of men (Matthew 4:19);
• It is also a reminder that Jesus stated “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”, (John 14:6);
• The red mast signifies the Cross, the giving of His blood, and the sacrifice Christ made for our sins and redemption. It stands as the central foundation which guides and enables the boat to go forth in its journey;
• The navy sail and the Southern Cross Represents Australia and the local community; it symbolises direction and navigation; Reflects values of guidance, identity, and purpose; and connects the College to its Australian context and heritage.

• The colours and stars represent the Australian flag and the iconic colours of the Australian bush and our surrounding waters.
• The boat hull – green represents growth, life, learning, and flourishing, and gold represents value and excellence. The hull serves as a foundation, symbolising the safe and nurturing environment provided by the College – the safe passage through the challenges on the journey.
• The waves represent Hervey Bay’s coastal environment; they symbolises movement, exploration, and continuous growth; they reflects the need for adaptability and resilience; and they remind us of our strong connection to the local Bayside community.

Our journey and all we do, is not done by chance but as the result of prayerful reflection, the calling of so many, and the heart to serve in this community.
