Students in Years 11 and 12 Legal Studies have been immersed in thought provoking learning this term, exploring both foundational legal principles and contemporary human rights issues.
Year 11 students have been delving into the Civil Law Foundations topic, with a particular focus on the concept of negligence. Through this unit, students are developing an understanding of how the law operates to resolve disputes between individuals and organisations, and how liability is determined in real-world scenarios. We have been enjoying unpacking relevant cases and the interesting quirks of civil law.
Meanwhile, Year 12 students have been examining human rights, with a focus on the Australian context. Their studies have encouraged critical thinking about how rights are protected in Australia, the role of national and international bodies, and the effectiveness of current legal mechanisms. By unpacking relevant contemporary human rights issues, students are applying their learning to real world events, and their implications on human rights.
Across both year levels, the creation of graphic organisers has been a highlight of classroom activity. These visual tools not only help students to synthesise information but also foster creativity and collaboration. The resulting displays showcase students’ ability to communicate complex legal ideas clearly and thoughtfully and reflect a learning environment where knowledge is both constructed and celebrated.
