Our Year 2 students have been busy discovering the joy of music-making, and what a vibrant journey it has been! This term, the focus has been on helping students find their voices, building confidence, developing pitch awareness, and learning to perform as part of a group.

A highlight of recent lessons has been revisiting classic nursery rhymes, giving them a fresh and energetic twist. Students have been combining their singing with body percussion, clapping, tapping, and patting rhythms to stay in time and maintain a steady beat. This multi-sensory approach not only strengthens their rhythmic skills but also helps them physically feel the pulse of the music, making learning both engaging and memorable.

In the classroom, the energy is fantastic. Small groups take turns performing while others keep the rhythm, creating a supportive environment where everyone is involved. The use of body percussion has also encouraged students to listen carefully to one another, helping them stay together as a cohesive ensemble.

Adding to the excitement, students have started exploring “Happy Days” from Sister Act 2. Each student has the chance to step into the spotlight by taking turns singing the lead part. This has been a wonderful way to build confidence and stage presence, as students learn to project their voices and express themselves musically in front of their peers.

It has been especially rewarding to see students grow more confident with every lesson. Many who were initially hesitant are now eagerly putting their hands up to sing. The combination of familiar songs, rhythmic movement, and opportunities for solo performance has created a positive and encouraging space for musical exploration.

We look forward to seeing these young performers continue to develop their skills and share their voices with pride!
