Principal’s Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are now in the last week of Term, and I am sure staff, students and parents are looking forward to some down time together with their family and friends. We look forward to these times and yet, there are times when we miss the opportunity we seek.
Just recently a friend of mine passed away in a traffic accident, and I am reminded that in the last two occasions we spoke he asked me to go for a ride with him, and on both occasions, I said I could not because of work. There are certainly times that our service must come first, but there are times our friends and those we love must be central to our thoughts. Our time on earth is precious and it is important that we choose how we want to live.
Rest is not only nice but is actually truly important, and there are many references to rest in the Bible. Matthew 11: 28-30 tells us Jesus invited people who were “weary and heavily burdened to come to him and he would give them rest.” Jesus helps us to enter into rest when we give him our burdens. This doesn’t mean that all of our problems magically disappear, but it does mean that the way we walk through our problems will change so we are aligned with the healthiest possible outcomes.
King David spoke of the importance of rest and in Psalm 23:2-3 draws our attention to God’s offer of rest: “In green pastures he makes me lie down; to still waters he leads me; he restores my soul.”
Physical rest is important, but so is spiritual rest , and this is found in faith, and not just believing but being in relationship with God.
We claim that finding time to rest is challenging – but this is a mindset, not a reality. We choose what we do every day, and sometimes our priorities are not really priorities. I hope that all in our community will find time to stop, rest, be with family and friends, and most importantly to be still and know that He is God!

Bayside Students wearing Green and Gold in the UK and France
Josh Titmarsh and Cooper Jeffrey will be wearing the Green and Gold when they depart for the UK and France on the 30th September. Both boys will be part of the Wanderers Australian U13/14 Rugby League team where they have numerous training sessions and play 4 games whilst travelling though the county. The boys have played football together for 10 years through both club and representative teams and now are both part of the Barracudas team.
Year 7 Science: Exploring God’s Design Through Molecular Models
As we wrapped up the school year in Year 7 Science, students had the opportunity to dive into the fascinating world of chemistry by building molecular models. Although our time studying chemistry was brief, this hands-on activity provided a wonderful taster of what’s to come in future years.
One of the highlights was constructing models of glucose, the simple sugar that fuels life, and caffeine, which proved to be a popular choice among students! These models helped us visualize the invisible—molecules so small they cannot be seen even under an optical microscope. Yet, despite their size, they play a vital role in the functioning of all living things.
We reflected on the miracle of photosynthesis, where plants take in water and carbon dioxide and, through the power of sunlight, produce glucose. This process is not only essential for plant life but also forms the foundation of the food chain and the biosphere. It’s a beautiful reminder of God’s provision and design.
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…” — Romans 1:20
Through this activity, students were encouraged to consider how even the tiniest parts of creation reflect God’s order and creativity. The complexity and elegance of molecular structures point us to a Creator who is both powerful and purposeful.
We look forward to building on this foundation in the years ahead, continuing to explore the wonders of God’s creation through science.
Year 6 Market Day
Thank you to everyone that supported our Year 6’s at their Market Day. It was a successful day where students put their learning into practice, selling a variety of products from popcorn, fairy floss, and cupcakes to fried rice, calm jars and slime.
Highway Cup Victory!
The Bayside Barracudas kicked off our much-anticipated tri-series, The Highway Cup, with a thrilling match against Victory College. Under the brilliant spring sun at the Hervey Bay Seagulls fields, the atmosphere was electric as players from both teams were eager to showcase their skills on the football field.
The first clash featured our Boys U12/13 team, who came out with remarkable determination and excellent teamwork. Their efforts paid off, resulting in a resounding victory of 34-4. It was an outstanding defensive performance that truly set the tone for the day.
Next up was the Girls U13-15 game. Filled with excitement, the girls relished the chance to play on the full field, and their teamwork was truly impressive. They delivered a stunning performance, defeating Victory College with an impressive score of 44-0. Their attacking plays were dynamic, and their solid defence ensured that Victory College didn’t score a single point.
The day’s final game featured our Boys U14/15 team, where the intensity escalated. This match was physical, with fierce tackles that had the crowd cheering with every hit. The boys demonstrated remarkable skill throughout the game, securing a fantastic win with a score of 58-10. Their well-structured plays and robust defence were key to their success.
Overall, it was an amazing day filled with thrilling football, and our students are already buzzing with excitement for their next match, scheduled for October 17th in Gympie. A heartfelt thank you to Victory College for making the journey to compete against the Barracudas, and a big shout-out to the parents and spectators for their unwavering support! Let’s keep this momentum going!

HASS & Business Highlights: A Term of Discovery, Creativity, and Critical Thinking
This term has been a dynamic journey for our Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and Senior Business students. From ancient times and landscapes to modern global challenges, each year level has engaged in rich learning experiences that sparked curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
Year 7: Deep Time History of Australia
Students ventured into the vast timeline of Australia’s ancient past, uncovering the geological and cultural layers that shaped the continent long before European settlement. They explored the significance of Indigenous perspectives and the enduring connection to Country, gaining a deeper appreciation for Australia’s unique heritage.
Year 8: Medieval Europe & The Black Death
From castles to cathedrals, Year 8 students immersed themselves in the world of Medieval Europe. Their studies culminated in a hands-on investigation of the Black Death, where they examined its devastating impact on society, economy, and belief systems. Through role-play and creative storytelling, students brought history to life with thoughtful reflection.
Year 9: Civics and Citizenship – Building a City from Scratch
Year 9 students took a deep dive into the rules, regulations, and governance structures that shape societies. After exploring the legal and civic frameworks of countries and states, they applied their knowledge by designing their own cities. Each student-created city featured a unique flag, map, legal system, currency, and social structure—showcasing innovation, empathy, and an understanding of civic responsibility.
Year 10: Tackling Real-World Issues
With a focus on contemporary challenges, Year 10 students explored pressing issues in Australia and the global community. Topics ranged from climate change and inequality to political participation and human rights. Through debates, research projects, and collaborative inquiry, students developed informed perspectives and proposed thoughtful solutions to complex problems.
Senior Business students examined the growth stage of business development, diving into operational and marketing strategies that drive success. They explored brand awareness, customer engagement, and market positioning, using real-world case studies to understand how businesses evolve and thrive. Their insights into strategic planning and innovation laid the groundwork for future entrepreneurial thinking.
Year 11 Ancient History students have journeyed deep into the heart of ancient China, exploring the life and legacy of one of its most enigmatic figures: Cao Cao. As part of Unit 3: People, Power and Authority in the senior Ancient History curriculum, students have been challenged to investigate how individuals shaped—and were shaped by—the turbulent times they lived in.
Across all year levels, students have demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and a commitment to understanding the world around them. Whether exploring ancient landscapes or designing future cities, their work reflects a vibrant learning community ready to shape the future.
Competition Uniforms for the Bayside Believers
Our Cheer Squad, the Bayside Believers, received their competition uniforms last week. These uniforms will only be worn for competitions. Our first competition is coming up in mid-November. Our Squad has been working very hard on their routine and can’t wait to experience their first competition!
