When it comes to reading, writing and numeracy skills, the early years matter the most.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce our Bayside Beginners Literacy and Numeracy Assessment, a key component of our comprehensive early intervention plan designed to build strong educational foundations for our youngest students.

We believe that early intervention improves outcomes, reduces long-term difficulties, and supports children when change is most effective.

What is Early Intervention?

Early intervention means addressing a challenge before it becomes a problem.

Research shows that students who have not achieved reading proficiency by Year 3 are at a significant risk of experiencing ongoing learning difficulties across all areas of school.

By identifying potential gaps as early as possible, starting in Prep, we can change the path of a student who may have otherwise experienced lifelong learning challenges.

How Does it Work?

Teachers conduct these assessments before students officially begin school, allowing baseline data to be collected and analysed to identify early, targeted supports from the outset.

Towards the end of Prep, research-based assessments are implemented to identify students who may require more focused intervention. This assessment process begins in Prep and continues progressively throughout the primary years.

The data gathered informs teaching strategies and targeted interventions, ensuring every student is supported to develop the skills needed to become a confident, capable lifelong learner.
