Each morning, before the school day starts, our staff gather for a team devotion. It’s a wonderful way to start the day off the right way – with God on our minds and in our hearts.
Here is the devotion Chappy Matt shared on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
One day…
The alarm goes off in the morning. You think about all the things you need to do and immediately feel overwhelmed. You slap the snooze button but continue to think anxiously about things that didn’t get done yesterday. You finally drag yourself out of bed, brush your teeth, shower quickly, put on your clothes, get in your car and go.
As you begin to drive, you notice a strange noise coming from the front left tire. You stop by the coffee shop on your way. The barista puts too much flavor in your drink. You mutter something under your breath. Another driver pulls out in front of you, and you almost hit him. You say out loud, “Get a clue, buddy!”
You walk into the office, and the phone is already ringing. You try to send an email, but the Wi-Fi won’t work for some reason. Your stress is rising. Someone walks into your office without an appointment and takes an hour of your time. You go to lunch and come back to find that 5 messages have been left for you; one that says that the important shipment you’ve been waiting for won’t arrive now until next week.
You come home to find that your teenager has gone over to a friend’s house without permission. You worry about how your child will ever make it to university, if they don’t do well in high school, and that means doing their homework. You find someone has left the freezer open, so all your frozen food has melted. You make yourself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you watch television for a few hours and shuffle off to bed.
Another day…
The alarm goes off in the morning, and you hit the snooze button. You use the extra moments to thank God for this new day. You pray for your coworkers, and family, and ask God to help you with the important roles you play as a worker and a parent. You reach for your Bible, and your read a chapter from where you left off.
As you walk to the bathroom, you are thinking about what God is doing in your world. In the shower you quietly hum a worship song you remember from Sunday.
As you get in your car, you say a simple prayer of thanks for the car, and for wisdom to know how to take care of it. As you pull into the espresso stand you say a prayer for the barista, and you greet her warmly, and ask her how her day is going.
As a person pulls in front of you, you say a prayer for all of the people who are rushing to work right now for safety, and you say thanks to God for protecting you from a potential accident.
As you walk into the office, you spiritually prepare yourself to be a servant of Jesus Christ. And as you answer every phone call, and email, and visitor, you consider whether any of these contacts are God arranged appointments. When you realize that the shipment will not arrive on time, you place the timing in God’s hands, knowing it is beyond your control.
When you arrive home and find that your child is at a friend’s house, you say a prayer of thanks, for the friends that your child has. You call over to see when your child will be home, and to offer help with homework. You clean out the freezer, marveling that you live in a country where we need freezers to store all our excess food.
As you eat your peanut butter and jelly sandwich you spend time with your wife and kids, debriefing from the day, encouraging them, and helping them to be prepared for the next one. You go to bed and thank God that He has given you such an awesome life.
One of those days is not like the other.
