Sunshine Kindy is a single room unit and is licenced for 20 children aged 3 – 5 years, with a staff to child ratio of 1:11.
We are open 7.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday for 48 weeks of the year.
Our Centre closes for four weeks over the Christmas/New Year period.

Our Centre is a registered Long Day Care Facility with the Federal Government and as such, eligible families are able to claim Child Care Subsidy (CCS) on fees through the Family Assistance Office.

Sunshine Kindy fully supports the vision, mission and philosophy statements of Bayside Christian College.
We believe every child is a unique and special gift from God. Your child’s sense of self and awareness of God will develop through the love, kindness, patience, dependability and trust modelled by loving parents, teachers and members of our school community. At Sunshine Kindy we aim to inspire your child’s love of learning through supporting their social awareness, emotional maturity, communication skills, critical learning, physical development and spiritual growth

Kindergarten Program

Our Approved Kindergarten program is implemented by a registered Early Childhood Teacher and is on offer five days per week, 7.30am – 12.30pm. (Long Day Care is provided 7.30am – 5.30pm daily). This program is for children 4 years of age by 30th June in their year of entry, and age eligible to attend Prep the following year.

Children can be enrolled for up to 5 days in the Kindergarten program depending on availability, family needs, work and/or study commitments.

When a child attends at least 3 days, the Centre is eligible for state kindergarten funding (QKFS). This supports us in providing quality resources for the program.

QKFS SEIFA funds are applied to the daily Kindy fee for all families.

QKFS HEALTH CARE CARD SUBSIDY. Due to our participation in the Department of Education and Training Kindergarten Funding Scheme, we are able to provide eligible families with a Health Care Card Subsidy. In order to pass this subsidy on to our families, we require a photocopy of your current Health Care Card for our records.

“Curriculum encompasses all the interactions, experiences, activities, routines and events, planned and unplanned, that occur in an environment designed to foster children’s learning and development.”

(Early Years Learning Framework, EYLF p.9)

Our Kindergarten program is based on the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. While the EYLF focuses on children from birth to five years, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG) aims to specifically enrich children’s learning in the Kindergarten year. Throughout the Kindergarten Year, children’s rights to experience the joy of childhood are fundamental and learning is promoted through play, emergent and planned learning experiences and collaboration between children, educators and families.

The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline is based on five learning and development areas.
Area 1:    Children have a strong sense of identity
Area 2:    Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Area 3:    Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Area 4:    Children are confident and involved learners
Area 5:    Children are effective communicators .

Junior Kindy

We refer to our younger children as our Little Stars. These children must be 3 years of age and fully day time toilet trained before they are eligible to commence.  We encourage children in this group to attend at least 2 days to benefit from the program and interactions with teacher and friends.
